More Than Just Scent

July 2026

When I first began working with essential oils, I simply loved the way they made a space smell.

Long before tulA existed, I was always filling my home with beautiful scents. I have always loved creating a welcoming atmosphere. There was something so satisfying about hearing someone walk through the door and say, "It smells so lovely in here." At the time, I never imagined those small moments would one day inspire my own business.

Over the years, though, I've come to realise that scent is about so much more than fragrance.

Scent has the ability to change the way a room feels. Choosing specific scents for different spaces can help create the atmosphere you want your home to have. A living room becomes somewhere to pause, a busy kitchen can feel calmer, and at the end of a long day, your bedroom can become a place to truly switch off and unwind.

In my Create Your Calm Guide I have shared how I use scent throughout my own home to create different moods in different spaces. Scent quietly shapes the way we experience our homes, often without us even realising it.

These past few months have felt like a bit of a turning point for tulA. I've found myself thinking more about the atmosphere the products I make help create. It's inspired me to transform my studio into a calmer, more peaceful place to work, refresh the way tulA is presented and share more ideas about using scent to create different moods throughout the home.

Behind the scenes, I've also been working on new packaging, something I'm excited to introduce later this autumn. My hope is that it reflects the simplicity and thoughtful brand that have always been at the heart of tulA.

Away from the studio, I've spent much of this summer in the garden enjoying the lovely Summer weather. Watching it transform with new growth and taking time to appreciate the changing scents. Those slower moments have become a wonderful source of inspiration for me and have planted the seed for something new.

I've been living with a new botanical blend in the studio over the past few weeks. It's become part of my evenings helping me slow down. It's still evolving, so I'll keep its name to myself for now, but it's been lovely seeing how a scent can gently find its own place before it's ready to be shared.

Thank you for taking a moment to read the tulA Journal, I do hope that each entry offers a little inspiration to help you create a calmer, more intentional home while also giving you a glimpse behind the scenes and into the heart of tulA.
